You also need a valid passport and a smartphone with iOS or Android. Your phone must have a reliable internet connection and enable the application to access the camera. Since the app uses Near Field Communication to read passport chips, NFC must be enabled in your settings. Location services must also be available for the app.

How to Complete Your Identity Check Using the App
The process includes five steps. Following them carefully will help ensure your submission is successful.
Step 1: Provide Your Visa Lodgement Number
Your VLN is shown on the biometrics instruction letter you received. It begins with AUI or AUH and includes both letters and numbers. You can provide your VLN in two ways. You can scan the barcode on the letter or type in the code manually.
If you are adding identity checks for more than one family member, each person has their own VLN.
Step 2: Scan Your Passport
Make sure NFC is turned on in your phone settings. Open your passport to the page with your personal details and place your phone over it. Hold the device steady and avoid shadows or glare. When the app recognises the passport, the red outline will turn green.
If your passport contains an electronic chip, the app will prompt you to scan it. The chip may be located in the front or back cover, depending on your nationality. Place your phone directly on the passport and keep it still until the app confirms the scan is complete.
Step 3: Confirm Your Passport Information
The app will display the information it collected. Check that all details match your passport information exactly. If anything looks incorrect, go back and scan again.
Step 4: Take Your Photo
The app will ask you to take a facial image. Follow these tips to help the app capture a clear photo:

Remove glasses if possible
Ensure the background is clear
Keep your face inside the frame shown on your screen
Look directly at the camera
Avoid shadows and do not cover your face
The app automatically takes the photo once your face is centred. You can retake it if needed. Be aware that heavy makeup may affect the suitability of your photo. Step 5: Submit the Identity Check
After completing all steps, you can enter your email if you want to receive a confirmation message. Once submitted, your details are sent securely to the Department of Home Affairs. The app does not store your data after transmission.
If the upload fails for any reason, the app will inform you and ask you to try again. When your submission is successful, the final screen will confirm that no further biometrics appointment is required.
Your ImmiAccount will usually update within 24 hours to show that your identity check has been received. You can then check the progress of your visa application and any remaining requirements in your ImmiAccount.
